What is the best thing about being back in person? Is there anything that surprised you about being in the studio?
Dancing on zoom was very limiting, not having the same close family vibe as you would in person. In person, there would be a certain atmosphere of encouragement from others that you won’t be able to find when dancing in a secluded area. So my favorite thing about being back in person is the connection, and sense of community, all dancing in the same space!
What is your favorite thing about LACHSA right now?
My favorite thing about LACHSA has to be the people. Everyone here is so diverse in what they bring to this school! Everybody is so talented, and being around these people really inspires me to continue working hard and pursuing my dream.
What are your goals for this year as a Dance
Major?
This year, I would love to focus on my technique. I definitely feel like I lost a lot of my flexibility over the course of stay at home dancing. Though at LACHSA, being in person and teachers being able to focus on the students individually, I feel like this would be the perfect space to gain my strength back and learn new techniques along the way!
What is something you’re looking forward to experiencing this year as a Dance major?
This year, I am looking forward to new opportunities LACHSA brings to their students. Experiencing new areas of dance which I have never been exposed to before!
What is your favorite food?
Ooooo, I definitely have many favorites but the top spot has to go to Korean 부추전 which is a “pancake” that has chives in it :)
What is your favorite color?
My favorite color is purple!
What is your astrological sign?
I’m an Aries!
Do you have an outside hobby
Yes! In my free time, I love to learn new songs on the piano and guitar.
What is your favorite type of music to listen to?
At an early age, my dad has exposed me to many 80s songs! So I really enjoy songs from bands such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, New Order, Queen, and many others.
What is your favorite type of music to dance to?
I love to dance to songs with a strong bass. Songs such as Rio by Duran Duran or Come Together by The Beatles with multiple accents are my favorite :D
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Hmm if I were to have one super power, I would wish for telekinesis, which would allow me to move anything with my mind so that I could bring things to me without even moving an inch!
Do you have any future summer plans that are dance related? Any summer intensives? Competitions? Workshops? Etc.
Over the summer, I would love to join summer intensives at Debbie Allen Dance Academy!
What advice would you give your future senior self?
I would remind myself to never give up! To keep pushing forward towards what you love to do, and to pursue everything that really calls out to you.
I would also add to keep following the phrase “when no one is watching”. Remembering how much effort it takes behind the scenes. Doing the grunt work that it requires to be great :)
