HOW TO HELP

The non-profit LACHSA Foundation ensures that the most remarkable student artists in Los Angeles County are able to engage in a transformative conservatory incubator, regardless of their backgrounds. Each year, the Foundation works to entirely fund the actual costs of the arts curriculum and programs by cultivating relationships with a broad base of donors who recognize the value of supporting young artists destined to change the world.

In the Dance Department, our mission is to have 100% Dance family contributions to our LACHSA Foundation. Contribute what you can afford, any amount is very much appreciated! The main goal, is to have the 100% participation to show support from our entire Dance Family. Please see the LACHSA Foundation website

THANK YOU TO OUR DONORS & SUPPORTERS

Thank you to our donors for your continued support! We want to extend a huge thank you to our fabulous Dance Parent donors and volunteers.  Community partners who have generously provided beautiful studio space for LACHSA Dance rehearsals, filming and events.

The Mr. Martin Legacy Scholarship Award was established June 18th 2022 in remembrance of a beloved LACHSA dance teacher Mr Don Martin (1931-2021).

Each year a LACHSA student or students will receive a scholarship to aid with the costs of travel and accommodation for summer courses, and access to continued dance training during time off from school.

Please give generously to build and maintain this scholarship in Don’s name to continue the love, kindness and work ethic that Mr Martin instilled in his students.

DON MARTIN (1931-2021)

Mr. Martin was a dancer with the Lester Horton Dance Theater. He was one of the dancers Lester Horton worked with when Horton was codifying his technique. After Lester Horton died at the tragically young age of 47 Mr Martin helped catalog and archive - and later became the legacy holder - of Lester Horton’s work.

Mr. Martin taught for 15 plus years at LACHSA where he passed on the essential ideals of Lester Horton. Known to all of his students respectfully as “Mr. Martin”, his technique classes and choreography were famously rigorous, demanding and uncompromising. He created 4 original works on the Lachsa dancers, “Still I Rise”, “La Casa de Las Secas”, “Odes and Homages”, and finally “Joan of Orleans”. It was an honor for a Lachsa dance dept. student to be included in the cast of his challenging works.

Lachsa dance dept. is continuing the legacy of Mr. Martin’s work and passion, with continued Horton technique classes and the re-staging of Mr. Martin’s original choreography.

WENDY LAWSON, beloved teacher, mentor and colleague to generations of LACHSA students, dance families and teachers, taught at LACHSA from 2006 - 2023.

In memory of Wendy and to honor the impact she had during her years with us, LACHSA DANCE and the LACHSA Community wishes to continue the legacy of a committed Classical Ballet tradition at LACHSA. Access to Classical Ballet study for students from all backgrounds was something Ms Wendy championed during her years of teaching at LACHSA.

Please consider contributing to this fund to keep the Classical Ballet repertoire in our LACHSA Spring Dance Concert performances alive and vibrant for years to come.
